Home Made Finger Paints
Corn starch almost made this event into an Epic Fail.
It got into her hair, on the floor, all over the counter. The texture was just too much for Lou to resist.
Yes that’s our couch. So today we made some home made finger paints. I thought it was worth a shot. We found an online recipe and bought some natural soap for it.
We mixed some water and corn starch and then added some mixed shaved soap and hot water.
Then we let it sit for an hour or two until it got thick.
Then we laid out our trusty cheap old table cloth (a must have) and some wax paper. We divided up the corn starch goo into three baby jars.
We found this natural food dye at Whole Foods.
Then we dyed the goo.
Lou loved seeing the dye change the white goo into colors.
Then we laid out a big piece of paper she began to paint.
The paint was a bit drab on the paper. I suppose if we do this again we will use more dye. It dried nicely though, smooth and not chalky. Over all I don’t think we will do this project again for a looong time. Not enough bang for all the work. I think it would be great for a grade school kid more than a toddler to really absorb how one can make a paint all on their own. |
