Inspired by: Cristiana Couceiro
I like to look at smaller, lesser known artists for our inspiration. Mostly working artists living today. So I found this wonderful site SETE DIAS by Cristiana Couceiro. Her work seems to be inspired by well known artists that aren’t living today like Duchamp, Hamilton and Picasso. I thought her use of text and images would be an interesting art project since Nople and Aunt Nora were in town. So we took some goofy pictures against a white wall, made them black and white in photoshop, printed them out, and then cut out the images.
The first thing Lou did with her cut out was to play talking with it. Which gave me another idea for another day (photo puppets.) So we laid out some paper, glue sticks, origami, some cut out words, and each person had their own personal black and white image.
I briefed Nople and Nora on two things: Embrace the blank space and off-center is usually more appealing.
Aunt Nora laid all her things out and began taking things away, which worked wonderfully. Nople immediately put her character dead center and put a million butterflies around it. Lou half glue stuck hers down on its side and tossed a letter on with some paper. Then she climbed over each person a few times, stamped some stuff and got bored.
The person that enjoyed this activity the most was 26yo Aunt Nora. She was almost sad that she doesn’t get to do art anymore (she’s in med school.) So if you do this activity, grab some adults! |
