Dirt, Grass, Mess
We had our first day of decent weather this week. And by decent I mean it was 50 degrees. In Southern California we didn’t go outside in 50 degree weather. I am not even sure if it gets to be 50 degrees there. With all of usĀ ecstatic over spring coming (is this why they call it spring fever?) we went outside. My kids were immediately attracted to the mud. Or whatever else was earthy and real. Rocks, leaves, sticks.
It’s pretty messy. Sometimes it feels like I am alone in letting my kids get this messy. Are there other parents out there that think this is wonderful?
Mucking about in nature is the all time favorite of my kids.
Grass clippings and rocks. Lou held that thing for 30 minutes while she explored. Good times. 2 comments to Dirt, Grass, Mess |

It’s hard to beat dirt for kids learning about sensory inputs and observational skills. This seemingly mundane substance comes in a million-bajillion variations; you can see it, touch it, smell it, hear it, hell you can even eat it a bit, and it’s different each time.
I agree, why keep them from experiencing nature with their hands too eh?
